Harry Potter fans have a new reason to celebrate now that the franchise's author, J.K. Rowling, has announced on her Facebook page that she will be making her screenwriting debut with a spin-off film inspired by a minor character in the Harry Potter series -- Newt Scamander, a fictitious author of the Fantastic Beasts textbook used by Harry and the rest of the students at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry.
More on the wizarding world ...
"It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt."
"As hardcore Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood," said the best-selling author who, according to reports, published a version of the book for Comic Relief last year.
"Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world."
"The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's get underway," as explained by J.K. Rowling on the first spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
All right, we know Vin Diesel is set to voice the character of Groot in the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy film. But according to him, that will mark only the beginning of his relationship with Marvel Studios.
Speaking to presenter Maria Menounos, Vin reveled that there's a lot more in store for him in terms of Marvel projects.
Explained Vin: "When I met with Marvel it wasn't for anything immediate, it was to talk about a film that would be introduced in the Phase 3 part of Marvel, not for a few years. You wouldn't be able to see it for a few years. In my mind, Marvel were doing it right, they were enrolling me at the ground level which is the best way to enroll me."
"We had agreed not to say anything about the specifics of the meeting. So, now I've got the fans that I love more than I love the industry, than I love everybody ... I was thinking 'I've got to be real with them, I've got to tell them something' and yet I want to be respectful of people's process and if people like to do a slow reveal, you know?'"
And here's how he's being real with his fans ...
"I get the call, I go down to Marvel. A great meeting. It was even talking about something so big I can't even talk about because it's like the merging of brands in a way, which I won't get into. That was something way, way, way, way, way down the road."
Exactly what merging of the brands means is anyone's guess but folks are speculating that Marvel could be planning to link up with one of the properties not currently owned by them e.g. Spider-Man or X-Men or even Fantastic Four.
Charlie Hunnam claims that he is not worried about stepping into the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming movie adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey and states that one of the main reasons for that is he has "a tangible chemistry" with his leading lady, Dakota Johnson.
"As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us. It felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it," the 33-year-old Brit actor, who was most recently seen in Pacific Rim,told the Hollywood Reporter.
The actor continued: "My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer As Folk. It was incredibly explicit sexual ..."
Charlie will play billionaire Grey, opposite Dakota's Anastasia Steele. Filming is set to begin in November with a projected 1 August 2014 release date.
After it was announced that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson were cast to play the two leads, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey, fans have started an online petition hoping to get the roles recast.
Fans of the erotica novel were unhappy about the decision in casting Charlie and Dakota
If the roles were to be recast, who do the fans want? The petition at Change.org, which reads "Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING", already has 60, 674 supporters and counting, who signed the petition to have Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel replace Charlie and Dakota.
The petition started by @dontouchmypatch is not to insult or hurt Charlie and Dakota. According to the "founder", the petition was started because they "just want to be heard".
Well, they were definitely heard as Matt has broken his silence upon learning about the online petition. The actor told Entertainment Tonight, "I'm so grateful for the fans and I'm touched."
"I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota," Matt added.
Finally after so many speculations and biddings and lobbying, Dakota Johnson has been confirmed to play Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnam has been picked to play Christian Grey in the movie Fifty Shades Of Grey.
Dakota beat the likes of Alexis Bledel, Mila Kunis, Emma Watson and Cara Delevigne to ace the role, based on E.L. James best-selling novel of the same name, sometimes dubbed as mummy porn.
Charlie beat stars like Alex Pettyfer, Michael Fassbender and Robert Pattinson, who were all named as possible candidates to play Christian in the movie that is slated for release in August next year.
What do y’all think? Happy with the casting or not? I don’t know about Dakota but I would have preferred someone like Ian Somerhalder as Christian. I certainly didn’t expect Charlie Hunnam.
Although Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are the best of friends, don't think for a minute that means Matt is gonna don the Robin costume in the upcoming Man Of Steel sequel.
Definitely not Robin
"I am a little older than Ben," Matt, who is currently seen in sci-fi movie Elysium, divulged to Times Of India. "I never saw Robin as older than Batman. Somebody sent me a picture actually (of his face photoshopped on Robin's body and Ben's on Batman's). It was really funny. But it's safe to say I won't be Robin."
And yes, Matt, 42, did defend the casting of Ben, 41, as Batman. What are BFFs for, right?
"I think it will be great," he said. "It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it's kind of funny. You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."
But let's get back to Matt. According to Cosmic Book News, DC is interested in getting Mr. Damon into the Justice League and the rumour is they are looking at Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.
At least 67,000 people believe that Warner Brothers should take the cowl and cape back from Ben Affleck.
In his introduction, John Roden, the person responsible for initiating the petition "Warner Brothers: Remove Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Superman/Batman movie" on change.org says: "(Ben Affleck's) acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won't do the role justice. He's not intimidating enough for the role of Batman. Batman is someone that strikes fear in the hearts of men. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he's not remotely close to an action star or a superhero. Please find someone else and deliver to the fans what they want."
As earlier reported, two-time Oscar winner Ben is set to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 2015 sequel to this year's Man Of Steel. Unfortauntely for him, not many fans have faith in the actor/director doing the role justice.
Actor and mega comicbook fan Wil Wheaton who played Wesley Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation tweeted Friday: "Really looking forward to seeing Affleck bring the depth and gravitas to Batman that he brought to Daredevil and Gigli."
It has been confirmed by Warner Bros. that Ben Affleck will take Christian Bale's place as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Man Of Steel sequel.
YES, I'M BATMAN!
According to the press release, the Argo actor and director of the Superman-Batman movie Zack Snyder "will create an entirely new incarnation of the character ... bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director's vision of their universe, which he established in Man Of Steel".
And Zack is excited to be working with the Oscar-winning actor as he expressed in the press release, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry (Cavill)’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
This announcement ends months of speculation on who will play the caped crusader after Christian said he won't be reprising his role in the follow up Man Of Steel movie, where he will star opposite Henry as Superman.
So, what do you think of Ben as Batman? Well, he did play Daredevil back in 2003 and look how that turned out? Guess we'll have to wait till 17 July 2015 to see ...
The movie Parkland is about the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963. But this film attempts to go beyond the facts we already know about the shooting.
Moviegoers will see what happened that day through individuals who played a part but were not as well known, like the doctors and nurses at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the cameraman who caught the horrific killing on film.
FYI, Zac Efron, 25, plays a young doctor who was the only attending on duty at that hospital when the US president was brought in.
Parkland, which also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks, Tom Welling and Paul Giamatti, is based on the book Four Days In November and is set to be released 20 September in the US.
