This is definitely one strange, not to mention painful, fan encounter for Tom Parker (Photo by The Star) Here's something that doesn't happen often at a meet-and-greet session with fans; Tom Parker from The Wanted told us that when they met some Malaysian fans before their show on Monday, one fan hit him in the groin! Ouch!
Although Tom laughed as he told us the story at an interview on Tuesday, sources claimed that he was furious when the incident happened and wanted to beat up the fan. He left the meet-and-greet after the incident. Well, we would be angry too if we were, erm, injured that way.
But all's fine now. Tom and his bandmates - Siva Kaneswaran, Max George, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes -- were jolly at the roundtable interview with Galaxie.
Now that The Wanted are signed to (Justin Bieber's manager) Scooter Braun, you guys spend quite a lot of time in the US recording. How different is the work ethic in the US versus the UK? Jay: The Americans are like steam train; work, work, work, full steam ahead. Whereas in England, we'd probably stop for tea for a bit. But I kinda like (the American way of working). Siva: In America, they are more about the production of a song whereas in the UK, we are more about the lyrics and melody.
Scooter Braun has the tendency to get the artistes he manages to work together. Case in point is Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber. Do you think you'll be working with any of your label mates... Psy maybe? Tom: We are a bit rough around the edge, so it would be a bit difficult to pair us up with people like Carly Rae Jepsen or Justin Bieber. If anyone, I think we'd work with Psy. The Wanted want you to take them as serious musicians (Photo by The Star)
Maybe this a bit premature to ask but have you guys started thinking of ways to ensure longevity in your career? Jay: We can't just rely on the youth market forever. We have to write good music (to ensure people are interested) even when this boyband craze fades. A good song will explode no matter how you look like. Psy (Gangnam Style) is a good example.
